Smoking before or after surgery increases the visibility of scarring and causes problems with healing. Therefore, we require that all patients cease the use of nicotine products (including cigarettes, e-cigarettes, chewing tobacco, and all other products containing nicotine). This should last at least 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after a tummy tuck.
In general, you can expect to be able to swim within 3 weeks after your surgery, or after your wounds are totally healed. Regarding exercise, you will be able to walk immediately after your release, but you should wait about 2 weeks before restarting any cardio. Other specific restrictions will be discussed at the time of your consultation and again at post-op appointments.
You should plan to take off work for 10 to 14 days. We’ll go over all of your post-care instructions to help lessen the amount of time it takes for your body to properly heal and return to normal activities.

Depending on the amount of excess skin and fat that needs to be removed during your tummy tuck in Indianapolis, your surgeon may choose to perform a full tuck or a mini tuck.
A full tummy tuck involves a longer incision, which allows the surgeon to return the rectus (6 pack) muscles to the midline, repairing diastasis recti. A mini-tummy tuck uses a smaller incision and only addresses skin and fat in the region below the naval.
