Is there an age limit for getting a nose job?

No. While there is no clear-cut age limit, a rhinoplasty is most effective once facial development is complete, which occurs in late adolescence. However, there are certainly exceptions to performing rhinoplasty during teenage years. During your consultation, we closely examine your anatomy, review your medical history, and discuss your vision to determine whether you are an ideal candidate for a nose job at this time.

Where is the incision made for rhinoplasty?

Our team of highly skilled surgeons places the majority of incisions inside the nose, concealing scarring. We also create a small, hidden incision along the columella—the narrow strip of tissue that divides the nostrils at the nasal base—which becomes inconspicuous after a few weeks.

Is there a nonsurgical alternative to rhinoplasty?

Yes, but we do not recommend a “nonsurgical rhinoplasty,” also known as a “liquid rhinoplasty,” for everyone. This approach uses dermal filler injections to subtly reshape the nose. It is not suitable for patients looking to address significant concerns, such as a nasal hump, breathing issues, or an enlarged nose.

Will “grafts” be used in my rhinoplasty?

In some cases, grafts are required in order to achieve patients’ cosmetic or functional goals. Fortunately, our renowned surgeons can use septal cartilage inside the nose in many cases. However, we may need to collect cartilage from the rib or ear if needed—to correct a previous rhinoplasty, for example. Rarely, we use other materials to perform a graft, but we will discuss your options during your consultation for a rhinoplasty in Indianapolis.

Will I have packing in my nose after a nose job?

No. If you undergo a septoplasty at the same time as a rhinoplasty, we may place splints—small, plastic tubes—within the nose to support healing, but packing is not necessary. To keep these splints clear, so you can breathe easily through your nose, your surgeon will instruct you to use a nasal spray throughout recovery.

When will I see the final results of my nose job?

While you can expect excellent results within 3 to 4 weeks of your rhinoplasty in Indianapolis, deeper tissues continue to heal for months. Complete healing takes 6 to 12 months, at which point all swelling has subsided and your permanent results emerge.

How long does it take bruising to resolve after a rhinoplasty?

The majority of bruising resolves within 10 to 14 days. In the meantime, you can easily conceal discoloration with makeup. During the recovery process, follow your surgeon’s instructions to use a nasal spray throughout the day. This supports healing, allowing you to breathe through your nose easily. We also recommend applying a cool compress and keeping your head elevated to minimize bruising and swelling.

When can I resume work or exercise after a nose job?

Most patients feel ready to return to work within a week, but some return even sooner. You may choose to take 1 to 3 weeks of “social recovery,” allowing swelling and bruising to subside. You’re free to walk immediately after surgery, but do not engage in other exercise for 2 weeks. After 3 weeks, or once incisions have completely healed, you can swim. Avoid playing contact sports as directed for several weeks to avoid injuring your nose as it heals, and never hesitate to reach out with questions.
